July 01, 1947 - May 18, 2025
George was born in Allan, Saskatchewan. He's the oldest child of seven of George and Edna (Maerz). George was six years old when the family moved from Saskatchewan to Penelton Bay, BC, in 1953. George attended one year of school in Penelton Bay before the family moved to Burns Lake, BC. He attended the Catholic Elementary school, Immaculata, and finished high school at the public school. George went to O'Grady Catholic College in Prince George for one year also.
George met Wanda Davey in Houston, BC, where he worked in a sawmill. They married in 1968 in Williams Lake, BC, and later moved to Vancouver, BC where George worked as a book-keeper. They have two sons, Donald (Calgary) and Douglas (Prince George) and seven grandchildren. They divorced in 1986.
George accepted the Lord in approximately 1977 and immediately his life turned around. Turning from his sinful ways, he fell in love with the Lord. He read his Bible and attended every church service and house meeting he could. He became a single Dad and raised his youngest son on his own. They did some travelling around and George worked or volunteered at small jobs to support themselves. But his heart's desire was to share the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ wherever he went. George became good at preaching, singing, and dancing for and in the Lord. He was lovingly nicknamed "jumping George". He was so full of joy!
George always has a desire to marry again, but I guess it wasn't God's plan for him. In his later years, George
re-settled in Burns Lake and found his ministry to the downtrodden and native brethren. George's hearts desire was to start a Christian bookstore and a men's shelter with Bible training. He lived and worked at the Wanakena Motel for a few years until moving to Carol Cottage seniors housing.
George helped anyone in any way he could, no matter what the job. He had a "servant's heart". He gave people rides for no charge, and gave food away and clothes as needed. George always had an encouraging word; he loved the Lord and he loved people. He had a lot of friends.
George was predeceased by his parents and younger brother Bernard. Survived by his sons: Donald (Christine) and Douglas (Shawna). His ex-wife Wanda and ex daughter-in-law Cheryl. Sisters Helen (Ross), Brenda, Katherine, Bernadette (Wayne), and brother John. Seven grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and relatives.
Many thanks to his Pastors and Church family at Living Waters Church in Burns Lake, and the ambulance attendants and home care and hospital staff of Lakes District Hospital. Very grateful thanks to the staff of Grace Memorial Funeral Home in Vanderhoof, BC.
