Wiebe Van Camp

Wiebe Van Camp

June 1944 - July 2024

Wiebe Van Camp was born in Ede, Gelderland, The Netherlands. His

family moved there from the city of Leeuwarden, Friesland, NDL. during

World War II 1939-1945. He was just six years of age and the youngest

of eight, when the family immigrated in 1951 to start a new life in Iron

Springs, Alberta, Canada.

It was a rough start working 5 years in the sugar beet fields. With

determination and spirit the family succeeded on all fronts. Wiebe became

a skilled organist by the end of his teens. His love of classical music never

left him. Wiebe and his sister Joyce became the organists of the Christian

Reformed Church in Calgary.

Wiebe and Margriet met at "Young People's Society." They moved

separately to Vancouver for work and married. After four years, Wiebe had

renewed ambitions to travel. We decided on going by boat to Western

Europe to look up our relatives. Camping and motorized bicycles were

our best forms of transportation to see Europe. After, eighteen months of

life away, we flew home from Spain to Calgary, Canada. We were happily

reunited with our families. Wiebe found work with Woodwards as Shipper/

Receiver, in Vancouver and later in New Westminster. There our lovely

daughter Tania was born. We bought a home in North Delta.

In August 1995, we decided to move to our cabins at Francois Lake and

live off-grid, like pioneers. From our cabin neighbours we had a lot of

help learning how. Our daughter Tania and husband Richard helped us

move. After 2 years, Wiebe was hired as a "contractor" by Canada Post

for RR2, Burns Lake. After 8 years, He was hired as an "employee" with

benefits. Wiebe retired and enjoyed living and gardening in the village of

Burns Lake, BC.
